I developed an ePortfolio to help guide me in my growth to become an expert in the field of technology. The artifacts I completed for EDU 315 pushed me out of my comfort zone and gave me new ideas and techniques I can use in a classroom. The ePortfolio is an efficient way for me to organize and present my criteria. With the creation of my ePortfolio, I now have a way for future potential employers to view what I have to offer as an educator before they even meet with me.
After creating my ePortfolio, I now have the knowledge to create a class website where I can keep students and parents involved with what is going on. Also as a teacher, having my students create their own ePortfolios would be a great project that is fun and easy to set up. "These ePortfolios are primarily a way to demonstrate (showcase) the highlights of a student’s academic career" (Clemson, 2015). This would be a perfect project for an elementary student because an ePortfolio is always available to be edited on-line. Having my students create an ePortfolio will ensure their information, projects and resumes stay current. Students will discover new applications on-line that can assist them on their paths to the professional world as well as in every day class. Creating an ePortfolio is great because it adheres to standard 5 of the National Educational Technology Standards. Standard 5 states, "Engage in professional growth and leadership Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources" (ISTE). EPortfolio is a perfect way for students and teachers post their findings and continue to learn from one another. There are always artifacts to find and ePortfolio is a great place to display them.
As I continue into the professional world of education, my ePortfolio will be vital to my success. I will show others what I already know and continue to apply the new things I learn. With the increase importance of technology in classrooms, I can use my ePortfolio to stay current with new applications. I will use the techniques I have learned in the classroom and pass my knowledge down to my students so they can begin to improve their standing in today's Technological world.
